US Assure Club upgrades approved for EverBank Field area
The Jaguars and the City of Jacksonville are partnering, once again, to enhance the Sports Complex area with a vision and purpose that will position it as a spectacular venue for a vast spectrum of events, all while enhancing downtown Jacksonville as a world-class destination.
The Jacksonville City Council today approved by a 19-0 vote the plans for a three-pronged project with construction of a new amphitheater and a covered flex field as well as renovations of the US Assure Clubs at EverBank Field. The Jaguars and the City will combine to invest $90 million, with no General Fund dollars being expended by the City. All funds for the project are from dollars identified solely for use at the Sports Complex.
Construction on the project is scheduled to begin in January following the taxslayer.com Bowl game. Completion of the club renovations is expected prior to the Jaguars’ first home preseason game in 2016. It is anticipated that the amphitheater and flex field will be completed in early fall.
“We have worked diligently over the years to improve EverBank Field, in every respect, to make it one of the best stadiums in the NFL for the Jaguars and our fans, and to enhance the entire Sports Complex so we are an undisputed destination for world class sports and entertainment events,” said Jaguars Owner Shad Khan. “Today’s news is a major step forward in our continuing effort to establish Jacksonville as the best of the best. We appreciate the efforts by Mayor Curry and the City Council to help make this vision a reality for Jacksonville so we can realize together what Jacksonville and the Jaguars are capable of achieving.”
The goal for the project is to help bring more events and people to downtown, to improve the quality of life in Jacksonville, and to improve the experience around Jaguars game weekends and other events at EverBank Field. The creation of a new 5,000-fixed-seat amphitheater and a multi-purpose covered field will attract more concerts, shows and events to Jacksonville. The facility can also be used as part of events taking place inside EverBank Field.
“Our mandate to provide best-in-class facilities, amenities and service for our fans and community is further realized with today’s news,” said Jaguars President Mark Lamping. “This project and these facilities will allow us all to imagine new possibilities for events and entertainment in downtown and in the Sports Complex area, attracting fans of football, concerts, the arts and many other interests.”
The covered flex field is designed so that it can also be used for Jaguars football practices when needed, and for hospitality, activation and fan engagement events as well as Jacksonville community events throughout the year.
The US Assure Clubs will undergo a complete remodeling. The US Assure Club improvements will completely reimagine the Club spaces, with the design including the installation of a glass wall between the Upper and Lower Clubs and the stadium bowl on each side of the stadium, thereby opening up the Clubs to a view of the field, the video boards and the overall ambiance of an NFL game or other major sports or entertainment event. These changes will also improve the multiuse capabilities of the Club spaces.
