The Jags played well for the most part on the defensive side of the ball against the Packers. Penalties killed them in crucial situations, but what stunned me most was the absence of Myles Jack. With a great combo of size and elite speed, Jack is a special kind of athlete. Why was he not on the field? He was drafted in round two and he needs to have a role on this defense if the Jags want success. He is learning multiple positions, but any team’s first two draft picks need to be starters or there will be a problem.
Looking ahead towards San Diego, the Jags need to find a role for Myles Jack. He is too fast, and has way too much upside to be on the sideline. Obviously, he is the future of middle linebacker for this team. Paul Posluszny is still the starter, but it is unacceptable for a top talent like Jack to be watching on the sideline.
I’m not going to pretend to know more about football than Gus Bradley, but when you trade up for a guy in round two, I would use him day one. Going against a team like San Diego, they are going to throw the ball early and often even with the loss of Keenan Allen. Jack is a great coverage linebacker and has a chance to shine against the Chargers.
Football is all about putting your best players on field who give you a chance to win. I have a hard time believing Myles Jack is not one of the better players on this Jags team. They are pretty shallow at the linebacker position and having Telvin Smith, Paul Posluszny and Myles Jack at linebacker sounds great on paper. Now let’s see it in action.
