Best Rookie: Yannick Ngakoue – This kid can play. Enough said. Why did I not choose Jalen Ramsey? Though he has been making waves, numbers don’t lie. Ngakoue has been a huge boost to the Jags pass rush. Through four games he has three sacks, three forced fumbles, a pass deflection and an interception. That is more than enough to make him the best Jags rookie four weeks in.
Best Offensive Player: Allen Robinson – This one was easy. A-Rob started off slow, but now has three TDs in the past two games. The yards aren’t quite there yet, but will definitely pick up as the season goes along. To be honest, he is one of the most dangerous redzone threats in the NFL.
Best Defensive Player: Telvin Smith – What is there to say? He is a tackling machine, and is averaging almost 9 a game. He is all over the field and his speed is second to none on this defense. He is too good to leave the field and plays just about every defensive snap. He also has two pass deflections.
Biggest Surprise: Yannick Ngakoue – I know I all ready declared him as best rookie, but how many of you even knew who he was in college? The kid was drafted in round three out of Maryland, and when his name was announced people around looked confused and angry. No one knew what to expect out of a guy whose name they couldn’t even pronounce. He has not only shattered expectations, but has earned his job as a starter on this defensive line.
Most Improved: Johnathan Cyprien – This guy has been pretty consistent so far this year. We all knew about his struggles in coverage last year, but with the addition of Tashaun Gipson; Cyp has been able to play a more comfortable role on this defense. He is asked play closer to the line of scrimmage where he can help stop the run or even rush the passer. He just looks looser out there. No longer getting in his own way, and going out there and tackling everyone in sight.
