Jackson was released by the Atlanta Falcons inexplicably on October 23rd, after starting seven games for the team, and 22 of the last 23. Only the Falcons front office knows for sure the reason for Jackson's release, but many feel that Jackson, and rookie head coach Bobby Petrino didn't see eye to eye.
What this means for the Jaguars is that they have another very large body to fill in the defensive tackle rotation who is great at stopping the run, due to his massive 6'2", 362 lb. frame. The signing of Jackson appears to send a signal that Tony McDaniel's injuries may be a little more serious than previously thought.
Scout.com's NFL expert Adam Caplan had this to say about Jackson–
"He's (Jackson) not exactly in shape, but he can still stop the run."
Jackson's presence will likely take some of the pressure off John Henderson and Marcus Stroud, as both have been battling injuries all season long. Jackson will likely rotate in on possible running downs, keeping Henderson, Stroud, Rob Meier, and Derek Landri more fresh to rush the passer.
Assuming Jackson passes his physical with the team, the Jaguars will have to make room for him by releasing a player, or placing someone on the injured reserve. The most likely IR candidates are kicker Josh Scobee, or defensive tackle Tony McDaniel. Possible cuts would be linebacker Brian Iwuh, or defensive end Kenny Pettway.
