It all came to a head when Tom Brady had his record setting performance in the playoffs when he torched the Jaguars, completing 26 of 28 passes.
The Jaguars front office tried to intercept a safety, but it appears as if Minnesota beat them deep. Former Cincinnati Bengals safety, Madieu Williams was the Jaguars primary defensive target in free agency, but it appeared as if they let one get away. Scout.com NFL Expert Adam Caplan is reporting that Williams is on a plane headed to Minnesota already with an agreement in principle.
The Jaguars have a certain question mark, if not a hole at the safety position, as restricted free agent Gerald Sensabaugh would likely be the starter, despite missing 14 games last season, and starting just 11 games in his short career. Despite that question mark, it doesn't seem likely that Jacksonville will spend huge money on a free agent safety, being that it really isn't a premium position.
The two best safety prospects in this free agency class are said to be Williams and former New York Giant, Gibril Wilson. Wilson is more of a true strong safety, as he is a big hitter and adequate cover guy, where Williams is said to be better in coverage. It is unclear at this time what the market will bear for safeties of Williams and Wilson's caliber, but as soon as we know, it will be reported.
