AFC Flaws

In what is considered the more powerful conference, there are a few teams that could represent the AFC in the Super Bowl. As good as any AFC team looks on paper, there are a number of things that can go wrong to derail anyone's season. We quickly break down the strengths and weaknesses of each team in the AFC.

Buffalo Bills- What we like- Lee Evans. Evans is a legitimate number one receiver who can go over the middle or get deep. What can keep them from being a contender? We don't know if Trent Edwards has the good to be a playoff QB, and we don't know if they can stop the run. Not enough top-flight players in Buffalo.

Miami Dolphins- What we like- The newfound toughness that Parcells and Sporano bring to the team. The Dolphins may not win more than four or five games this season, but they will compete each week. What can keep them from being a contender? Talent level, there just isn't enough of it.

New England Patriots- What we like- Tom Brady, great coaching, the most explosive offense in the history of the league. The Pats look like the best team in the league right now. What can keep them from the Super Bowl? An old, slow defense with the exception of Jerrod Mayo, an injury to Brady, not much talent in the secondary.

New York Jets- What we like- The offensive line, a very motivated Brett Favre, an underrated secondary. What can keep them from being a contender? Defensive line, linebackers, and a new system for Favre.

Baltimore Ravens- What we like- Terrell Suggs and Ed Reed. That's really about it. What can keep them from being a contender? No offense, transition at quarterback, not a great offensive line, defense getting older.

Cincinnati Bengals-
What we like- Carson Palmer, and the potential explosiveness of the Bengals offense. What can keep them from being a contender? Everything else. Bad defense, bad preseason o-line play, no team chemistry or character.

Cleveland Browns- What we like- Great offensive weapons all over the field. What can keep them from being a contender? Their secondary can't cover anyone, we're not sure if they can stop the run, and we're not completely sold on Derek Anderson.

Pittsburgh Steelers- What we like- Ben Roethlisberger and their running game. What can keep them from being a contender? One of the most difficult schedules ever, a suspect offensive and defensive line.

Houston Texans- What we like- They have the makings of an explosive offense with Schaub, Johnson, Daniels, Walter, and Slaton. What can keep them from being a contender? Not much of a pass rush, offensive line is questionable, and major questions at running back.

Indianapolis Colts- What we like- A plethora of explosive offensive options, along with the defensive player of the year, Bob Sanders. What can keep them from being a contender? Age and injury concerns. Is this the year Peyton Manning and Marvin Harrison significantly decline? Can Dwight Freeney come back and be that explosive defensive end?

Jacksonville Jaguars- What we like- Explosive rushing attack, great linebackers. What can keep them from being a contender? What if David Garrard isn't as good as he was a year ago? Where will they find a pass rush?

Tennessee Titans- What we like- Physical, tough defense, good running game, and a great kicking game. What can keep them from being a contender? Vince Young, and what could be the worst receiving corps in the NFL.

Denver Broncos- What we like- The physical abilities of Brandon Marshall, the best secondary in the league (on paper). What can keep them from being a contender? Is Jay Cutler a franchise QB? Can they stop the run?

Kansas City Chiefs- What we like- Dwayne Bowe and the potential of Glenn Dorsey and Branden Albert. What can keep them from being a contender? Brodie Croyle, the decline of their offensive line, and a questionable secondary.

Oakland Raiders-
What we like- Rushing attack, possibly the best tandem of corners in the league, fast, aggressive linebackers. What can keep them from being a contender? Inexperienced QB, wide receiver position, offensive line.

San Diego Chargers-
What we like- L.T., aggressive 3-4 defense, secondary led by Antonio Cromartie and Quentin Jammer. What can keep them from being a contender? Phillip Rivers, depth behind L.T., if Shawne Merriman's knee is as bad as he thinks it is.
