The team also made a couple moves on the practice squad as they replaced Gardner with undrafted wide receiver D'Juan Woods, and added offensive tackle Cliff Louis. To make room for Louis, the Jaguars waived cornerback Rashod Moulton.
Gardner offers the team a more physical option at defensive back as the 5'11", 200 lb. former University of Maryland product is known as a big hitter. Gardner also has the potential to be a special teams ace.
Brent Hawkins is an undersized defensive end, who would likely fit better as an outside linebacker in a 3-4 defense, rather than the 4-3 that the Jaguars employ.
As for the practice squad moves, D'Juan Woods had a great camp and a very productive preseason, and he was a victim of numbers at the wide receiver spot. It was somewhat of a surprise when Woods wasn't initially named to the practice squad Sunday.
Cliff Louis is a 6'8", 315 lb. tackle from Morgan State, who spent 2007 on the Cleveland Browns practice squad. With the status of backup tackle Richard Collier uncertain, the Jaguars needed to add more depth at the position.
The Jaguars are also likely to sign former Houston Texans tackle, Charles Spencer this week.
