Jags Scouting Offense

The Jaguars have had scouts looking at college talent all over the country and JagNation has confirmed their attendance at last Saturday's Arizona State-USC game. Find out who they were watching and who they could replace next year.

The Jaguars offense has been somewhat underachieving this year and there could be some major changes in the offseason. There's no guarantee that wide receivers Reggie Williams, Dennis Northcutt, and Troy Williamson will be back, and left tackle Khalif Barnes will likely hit free agency.

When Arizona State played USC last week, Jaguars scouts were in attendance.

Whenever USC is playing, there's always plenty of talent to scout, and last week was certainly no exception as the Trojans have a few players on the offensive side of the ball that caught Jaguars scout's collective eyes. Wide receivers Patrick Turner and Vidal Hazelton, quarterback Mark Sanchez, running back Stafon Johnson, and offensive tackle Charles Brown are all players that are on NFL watch lists and would potentially fill needs for the Jaguars. That wasn't all the offensive talent that was on the field, however. Arizona State quarterback Rudy Carpenter, running back Keegan Herring, wide receivers Michael Jones and Kyle Williams, and guard Paul Fanaika could also fit in the Jaguars plans.

Michael Jones - WR, ASU (Redshirt Sr.)- 6'3", 206 lbs., 4.45 40-yard dash. 2008 stats- 30 rec., 427 yds., 1 TD, long- 52 yds. Good with the ball in air, legitimate deep threat, currently an early second-day pick.

Kyle Williams - WR, ASU (Junior)- 5'10", 185 lbs., 4.38 40-yard dash. 2008 stats- 14 rec., 252 yds., 2 TD, long- 49 yds. Legitimate deep threat, good punt and kick return man. Currently a late-round pick.

Rudy Carpenter - QB, ASU ( Redshirt Sr.)- 6'2", 222 lbs., 4.76 40-yard dash. 2008 stats- 116-178, 1474 yds., 65.2% comp., 8 TD's/5 INT's,, 143.94 QB rating. Tough quarterback who is very accurate, not a running threat but has mobility, good delivery. Currently an early second-day pick.

Paul Fanaika - OG, ASU (Redshirt Sr.)- 6'6", 336 lbs., 5.28 40-yard dash. Former walk-on is now one of the best interior lineman in the ACC. Fanaika has a nasty streak and solid footwork. Started all 13 games a year ago. Currently an early second-day pick.

Keegan Herring - RB, ASU (Senior)- 5'10", 195 lbs., 4.38 40-yard dash. 2008 stats- 34 att., 131 yds., 2 TD's (only 3 games played). Good quickness, good agility, big play threat who can catch the ball out of the backfield. Needs more bulk. Currently an early second-day pick.

Patrick Turner - WR, USC (Senior)- 6'5", 220 lbs., 4.57 40-yard dash. 2008 stats- 18 rec., 264 yds., 3 TD, long- 42 yds. Strong, physical wide receiver in the mold of Terrell Owens. Honorable mention all-Pac 10 pick who didn't have huge numbers because of tons of offensive talent around him. Should be a solid possession guy at the next level. Currently a late-round pick.

Vidal Hazelton - WR, USC (Junior)- 6'2", 210 lbs., 4.47 40-yard dash. 2008 stats- 5 rec., 33 yds. Been fighting a sprained ankle that has caused him to miss games. Plays faster than his timed speed, very good with the ball in the air. Currently an early second-day pick.

Mark Sanchez - QB, USC (Redshirt Jr.)- 6'3", 225 lbs., 4.70 40-yard dash. 2008 stats- 93-146, 1248 yds., 63.7% comp., 14 TD/6INT's, 158.93 QB rating. First year as a full-time starter, very good arm, somewhat mobile but battling knee injuries, tough, questions about future success because of all the talent he has around him. Possible first-round pick.

Stafon Johnson - RB, USC (Junior)- 5'11", 215 lbs., 4.40 40-yard dash. 2008 stats- 36 att., 166 yds., 3 TD's. Part of a tailback rotation at USC, there are questions whether he can be an every-downs back. Punt return ability, solid speed and power, can break tackles. Currently an early second-day pick.

Charles Brown - OT, USC (Redshirt Jr.)- 6'6", 298 lbs., 4.89 40-yard dash. This is his first season as a starter. Has great athleticism, good footwork, former tight end. Currently an early second-day pick.
