Jags Hunting More Small School Talent

The Jaguars have never been a team to shy away from players from small schools that aren't household names. Find out which remote destination their scouts were at this weekend and which players they were watching.

Jaguars scouts headed to Bowling Green, Kentucky, the home of the Chevy Corvette. Although we can't say for sure if the Jags scouts shopped for a new ride, JagNation has confirmed the attendance of Jaguars scouts at Friday's Buffalo-Bowling Green game.

The top prospect from surprising Buffalo is senior quarterback Drew Willy. Willy has solid size at 6'3", 214 lbs., and may be the developmental quarterback that the team has been looking for. On the season, Willy has completed 206 of his 325 passes for 2348 yards, and has thrown 18 touchdown passes and just four interceptions. Although Willy isn't a run-first guy he has scored two touchdowns on the ground. Willy is currently projected as a late-round pick.

A couple of other offensive prospects from Buffalo are junior running back James Starks and junior wide receiver Naaman Roosevelt. Although both players are draft eligible, it would probably serve them better to stay in school for another year.

When the scouts looked to the other sideline they undoubtedly saw Bowling Green junior free safety P.J. Mahone. Mahone measures in at 5'11", 200 lbs., and runs in the low 4.4's (40-yard dash). He earned second team all-MAC honors a year ago and is having a solid 2008 campaign as he has recorded 75 tackles, two interceptions, and six passes defensed entering Friday's action. Mahone is projected as a late-round pick.

Another prospect from Bowling Green is junior wide receiver Freddie Barnes. Barnes has average receiver height at 6'1", 212 lbs., and he runs in the 4.5's (40-yard dash). On the season, the versatile Barnes has 28 receptions for 227 yards, while completing three of his four pass attempts for 31 yards and two touchdowns. Barnes is projected as a late-round pick.

A few other prospects from Bowling Green are senior middle linebacker John Haneline, senior outside linebacker Diyral Briggs, senior cornerback Antonio Smith, and senior cornerback Kenny Lewis. Junior quarterback Tyler Sheehan is also considered a prospect.
