Jaguars Report Card - DT

JagNation is going to look at the Jaguars, position by position, and give our final evaluation of what happened during the 2008 season. We're going to move to the defensive tackle position next.

John Henderson - 44 tackles, 2 sacks

Rob Meier - 30 tackles, 2 sacks

Tony McDaniel - 16 tackles

Positives- John Henderson is still a more than serviceable defensive tackle and Rob Meier is a solid pass rushing tackle. Tony McDaniel has the potential to be a star at the position.

Negatives- Henderson is no longer the dominant force he was in recent years, and the entire defensive line has suffered because of it. Meier struggled against the run in many spots this season. Although the coaching staff is high on McDaniel, his potential didn't equal up to much on the field in 2008.

Overall- The Jaguars have to get younger and better at the position, as it appears they grossly overrated the skills of both Rob Meier and Tony McDaniel, and John Henderson is a shell of his former self.

Solution- Although it doesn't appear as if any DT's value will meet the Jaguars eighth overall pick, the team must address the situation earlier than later in this year's draft, whether it means trading back in the first round or selecting a player early in the second round.

Overall grade: D
