The Vikings apparently have the edge for acquiring free-agent wide receiver T.J. Houshmandzadeh, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer.
The Vikings spent Saturday and the better part of Sunday visiting with Houshmandzadeh in an attempt to get him to sign with them over the Seattle Seahawks, whom he visited with before coming to Minnesota, and the Bengals, his team of the past eight seasons who have an offer on the table.
Earlier on Sunday, Houshmandzadeh's agent, Kennard McGuire, told the Enquirer that the receiver still wants to make a decision Sunday night, but on later told the Star Tribune in a text message that was no longer the case. Houshmandzadeh could make a decision on Monday morning.
He has averaged 94 catches and more than 1,000 yards per season over the last three years with the Bengals. He is considered a good run-after-the-catch receiver who could nicely complement the deep speed of Bernard Berrian on the other side.
Houshmandzadeh is reportedly seeking a deal worth an average of $10 million per season. Last year, the Vikings gave Berrian a six-year, $42 million contract.
