Jaguars Looking at SEC Stars

Although football season is still a few months away, the Jaguars scouts are racking up their frequent flyer miles. Find out where the Jaguars sent their "eyes" to look, and which players performed well.

The Jaguars were one of the teams in attendance at the University of Kentucky Pro Day. Although there likely won't be any first-day picks from UK, there was plenty of talent on display. Here's a comprehensive list:

P Tim Masthay

FS Marcus McClinton

DT Myron Pryor

OLB Johnny Williams

RB Tony Dixon

OT Garry Williams

DE Ventrell Jenkins

WR Dickey Lyons, Jr.

OLB Braxton Kelley

CB David Jones

CB Shomari Moore

Here's what's Kentucky Sports Report had to say about the workouts—

Cornerback David Jones posted the best 40 time among the '08 seniors, clocking as fast as 4.34 seconds. Among the '09 seniors, fleet-feet tailback Alfonso Smith ran the 40 as fast as 4.27 seconds, staying consistent with his previous times in the 4.2 range.

"Overall, it was a very productive day," Coach Rich Brooks said. "It's part of the (evaluation) process. For some guys, this day is very important. If a guy is not on the scouts' radar, he can really help himself (with a good showing).

"I think a lot of people will be impressed with how many of our players will be in the picture on draft day and the free agent signings."

Three of the Wildcat seniors, punter/kicker Tim Masthay, safety Marcus McClinton and defensive tackle Myron Pryor, had been worked out already by the scouts in February at the official NFL combine. Those players were on hand today for additional evaluation.

Free safety Marcus McClinton was the top rated prospect at the Wildcats Pro Day, and he has solid size to play the position (6'0", 210 lbs.). McClinton is a big hitter with straight line speed and that causes him to occasionally take bad angles and go for knockout blows, very similar to current Jaguars starting free safety Reggie Nelson. He's a reliable tackler who has had some injury concerns throughout his career. He's expected to be a second-day pick.
