Texans Head North

The Texans scouts hit the road and headed to the northeast. Find out where they were and which players they saw.

The Texans scouts headed to Western Pennsylvania to take in the Pittsburgh Panthers Pro Day last week. The top prospect there was running back LeSean McCoy. McCoy is a one cut and go type of runner who measured in at 5'11", 204 lbs. At the workout, "Shady" ran a 4.50 40-yard dash, a 29" vertical leap, an 8'11" broad jump, and a 4.18 20-yard shuttle. Those numbers were less than stellar, and McCoy will likely be selected somewhere in the second round.

"I don't think I blew out anybody with the way I performed," McCoy said. "But I think I did fairly well. I think they were more impressed with my strength. As far as a running back, I think everybody knew I could catch the ball, I could run, and I could cut. I wanted to blow out my 40, which I didn't."

Another top prospect is inside linebacker Scott McKillop. McKillop was one of the combine winners last month so he decided to skip most of the running drills.

"All I did was position drills, and I think I did real well,'' McKillop said. "A lot of the teams wanted to see how well I move in space, and I believe I answered a lot of those questions they had by playing quick and showing that I am athletic.

"But I still have no idea exactly where I'll go in the draft or which team will take me. Maybe things will get clearer in the next couple weeks, though, because there's still some time before (the NFL Draft) April 25 and 26. So, all I can do is keep working hard and hope for the best."

McKillop is rated by NFL Draft Scout as a fourth-round pick, and allow the Texans more depth at linebacker.

"Anything can happen when they're on the clock," McKillop said. "But what I've heard the most is that I could go in the third or fourth round, but nobody really knows for sure. Whatever happens, I just want a chance. That's all. I want to get in somebody's camp and get a chance to prove that I belong. All I need is a chance."

Other players who participated at the Pro Day were OL C.J. Davis, FB Conredge Collins, OL Chase Clowser, DL Rashaad Duncan, LS Mark Estermyer, WR Derek Kinder, OL Frank Kochin, K Conor Lee, LB Austin Ransom, TB LaRod Stephens-Howling, and DB Eric Thatcher.

Most of the players mentioned above are projected to be late-round picks or priority free agents.
