JagNation Rumor Mill

NFL preseason is here and it's time for another hot edition of the JagNation Rumor Mill. Do the Jaguars feel confident in their quarterback situation? We have evidence to the contrary. Will Derrick Harvey's camp holdout of 2008 continue to be the longest in team history? Who will play where on the Jags defense? These answers and more in the mill.

David Garrard, Todd Bouman, and Paul Smith. Will that be the Jaguars quarterback rotation heading into the season? Not likely. The team adamantly went after former Oakland Raiders signal caller Andrew Walter when he was released, but he decided to try to win a ring in New England with former Jaguar, Fred Taylor. Look for the Jaguars to pick up another quarterback when cuts start to be made. A name that's being bandied about is Kansas City quarterback Tyler Thigpen. Thigpen played fairly well a season ago, but finds himself on the outs now that the team traded for Matt Cassel.

Will Todd Bouman even remain on the roster? Sources say that Paul Smith is beating out Bouman for the backup job. With Bouman making the veteran minimum and Smith due to earn roughly half of that, it's not likely that the veteran from St. Cloud State is on the Jaguars opening day roster.

Some other quarterbacks to keep an eye on around the league are Luke McCown, Bruce Gradkowski, Charlie Frye, and A.J. Feeley.

Will first-round pick Eugene Monroe continue his contract holdout? It's not likely now that ninth-overall pick B.J. Raji has signed. The numbers have been set and Monroe will likely get around $21 million in guaranteed money. Expect him to sign in the next day or so.

As JagNation has reported over the last several months, the Jaguars are indeed moving to a 3-4 defense. http://jac.scout.com/2/850487.html

The big question about the 3-4 is what the team will do with former Pro Bowl defensive tackle John Henderson. Henderson, at 6'6", appears entirely too tall to play the nose and expect to see the team try him out at defensive end, as they have been at practice. If Henderson doesn't work out there, expect the team to listen to offers for the veteran as Carolina, Buffalo, and Philadelphia could all be interested.
