Jags Get A Starter Without Making a Pick

With both Jack Del Rio and Gene Smith disappointed with the play of the Jaguars linebacking corps a season ago, the team decided to strengthen the middle of their defense as they dealt for Oakland linebacker Kirk Morrison.

The 28-year old tackling machine has registered over triple-digits in tackles in each of his five seasons, and 133 tackles last season.  When Oakland selected Rolando McClain in the first round, Morrison became expendable.

Jacksonville gave up just their fourth-round pick (#108 overall) and received Morrison and Oakland's fifth-round pick (#153 overall).  In two trades with the Raiders, the Jaguars gave up Quentin Groves (37 career tackles) and a fourth-round pick for Kirk Morrison (624 tackles) and a pair of fifth-round picks.

Stay tuned for a full scouting report on Kirk Morrison.
