Four Downs: Miami Downs Jets

The Jets gave one away on Sunday, losing to Miami 10-6. Four Downs explores the major themes of the game.

1: The only positive for the Jets Sunday was the performance of the defense. The unit, which believes it is the NFL's best, forced Miami into ten punts and three fumbles. Their lone flaws were Dan Carpenter's 47-yard field goal and a six-yard Chad Henne-to-Brandon Marshall touchdown connection. Those scores occurred in the first quarter, so there was plenty of time for the offense to get the points back…

2: …But Brian Schottenheimer's corps could only manage two Nick Folk field goals. The Jets are averaging a mind-boggling 4.5 points in their four losses this season. Simply that is disgraceful.

3: Mark Sanchez was not the recipient of quality pass-protection, as he was sacked six times. But to only complete 17 passes for 216 yards is mind-numbingly bad. So, too, were his four fumbles and his first quarter interception.

4: Anytime the Jets' running game wants to live up to its reputation, well, that would be swell. Sanchez, LaDainian Tomlinson, Shonn Greene and Brad Smith only totaled 87 yards on the ground yesterday.
