Sanchez Set To Start

The Jets were lifted by a strong-armed Mark Sanchez on Thursday, who was named the starter for Sunday's game.

The Jets appear set to have a healthy Mark Sanchez available on Sunday, despite the quarterback being limited during two practices this week. Sanchez, who hurt his right shoulder two weeks ago in the first quarter of the win at Pittsburgh, made progress on Thursday at practice and will start Sunday when the Jets host Buffalo.

"Yes. I saw him throw today," head coach Rex Ryan said. "He looked good. He had some zip on the ball. We'll go ahead and start Mark this game. How long he play -, we'll determine that as the game goes. He will start for us."

Last Wednesday, Ryan had proclaimed that Sanchez would start in Chicago before backpedalling the next day to question whether his quarterback would start. Addressing the media on Thursday, Ryan left little doubt this time, basing his decision off Thursday's performance in practice. On Wednesday, Sanchez threw very little and appeared to be soft-tossing for much of the open session of practice.

"I wanted to see him throw today because last week, at this time, I had my concerns, but right now, he is zipping it pretty good," Ryan said. "I don't want to put him out there if we don't think he's healthy, but I believe he is healthy now."
