Damien Woody Out For Patriots Game

An Achilles injury will force Damien Woody from this Sunday's playoff game.

Florham Park, NJ – The Jets will be without right tackle Damien Woody for Sunday and potentially the rest of the playoffs with an Achilles injury. Head coach Rex Ryan said that Woody suffered the injury on Saturday night in the 17-16 Wild Card win over the Colts during the last drive of the game. He will be replaced by the versatile Wayne Hunter at right tackle.

Woody had injured his knee in the Week 14 loss to Miami. Hunter started the three subsequent games following the injury before Woody returned to a starting role last weekend.

"He's one of the best offensive tackles out there if not the best right tackle," Hunter said. "I think it always messes up the chemistry a little bit but since I've been playing in the Pittsburgh and Chicago games [those games would have been impacted] more."

On Saturday, Woody limped off the field and Hunter quickly raced on to replace the starting right tackle. Even in the locker room after the game, Hunter didn't think much of the personnel swap on the field, even as the team's medical staff examined the veteran Woody.

"I finished up the game with three plays left. I just thought it was his knee brace getting loose," Hunter said. "He went off then we had two [offensive] plays and the game was over. I didn't think it was anything that serious."
