Rookie free agent cornerback Kevin Knight has been impressive at the OTA's. The North Carolina product has made a lot of plays on the ball . . .
One thing is clear from watching Victor Hobson in practice - he is a very good blitzer. Expect him to amass some sacks for the Jets this year . . .
Wayne Chrebet was held out of the last two OTA's due to a pulled hamstring. Also sitting out where Tory Woodbury and Jason Ferguson for the same reason. None of the injuries are considered serious . . .
The Jets are taking it slow with newly-acquired offensive tackle Brent Smith. He is still not fully recovered from a blown out knee suffered last summer. He is limited in the OTA's. It will interesting to see how Smith performs in training camp. He is a rare player attempting to come back from having both knees reconstructed. If he is healthy, he gives the Jets a heck of an insurance policy at both tackle positions. After all, he started at both positions for the Dolphins at different times . . .
Anyone who wonders about Chad Pennington's arm strength should have seen the rocket he launched to Jon Carter 55 yards down field for a touchdown. Vinny Testaverde also connected on a pass of the same distance to Kevin Swayne . . .
Another receiver who has been impressive is recently signed undrafted free agent Mike Oliva. The UC-Davis product made a spectacular bobbling catch in today's practice. He has very solid hands and has good size at 6-2, 199 pounds. Another rookie receiver with good size, Cecil Moore, also had an impressive catch - fighting for the ball in traffic. The 6-1, 210 pound more is a very physical receiver . . .
Jets guard Brandon Moore is flourishing over in NFL Europe. He was a defensive tackle in college, who the Jets moved to offensive guard in training camp. He has taken to the position well, and has really taken his game to another level in Europe. He will likely battle seventh round pick Dave Yavanovits for a roster spot . . .
The Jets had a financial planner talk to the rookies about handling their money . . . It will be interesting to see how the Jets fill the void left by the departure of Richie Anderson (Dallas). You would expect Lamont Jordon to help fill part of the hole, but watching him in the OTA's, he still needs some work on his hands. Jordan and Jerald Sowell will likely combine to replace Anderson's catches . . .
