More "Mayhem" Maybin in New York

Initially thought to be a draft bust, Aaron Maybin turned out to be a blessing in disguise for the Jets in 2011.

Rex Ryan's reclamation project will likely remain in New York for at least one more season. The New York Daily News has learned that the Jets are expected to offer restricted free agent Aaron Maybin a first-round tender worth approximately $2.5-$2.75 million.

Maybin, the 11th overall pick in the 2009 draft, was jettisoned by the Buffalo Bills following two disappointing seasons in upstate New York.

Maybin's detractors claimed his undersized frame was not well-suited for the defensive end position. While the majority of NFL front offices viewed Maybin as merely another first-round draft bust, the Jets brass felt he could flourish as a pass rushing specialist in Ryan's versatile defensive system.

They were right.

After recording zero sacks in his first two seasons, Maybin had a breakout year with the Jets in 2011 totaling six sacks, forced four fumbles while providing the Green and White with a legitimate pass rushing presence.

At 23 and entering only his fourth season, Maybin has tremendous upside and could be a key cog in New York's defensive front in 2012 and beyond.
