Tebow wants to be a Jet for a 'long time'

New York's jack of all trades seems to be enjoying life in the Big City.

With reports surfacing that New York Jets backup quarterback Tim Tebow would seek a trade if he's not named the starter at some point this season, the Wildcat specialist put to rest any thought of an impending change of address on Friday.

"I find that pretty funny," said Tebow of his trade gossip. "It's about as true as me living in Hoboken, I think. I guess it's just part of what you have to deal with, is rumors and stuff like that, I don't know. All I can say is, I love being here as a Jet, I'm thankful for it and I want to be here for a long time."

On the heels of their 48-28 season opening day victory over the Buffalo Bills, Tebow and company are preparing to face a perennially top-ranked Pittsburgh Steelers defense. With a trip to the Steel City on the horizon, there's an air of mystery regarding how heavy a dose of the Wildcat fans can expect to see on Sunday.

"I guess there's some sort of (benefit in) them having to plan without knowing exactly (what we're going to do), which is good," noted Tebow. "(It) definitely takes up more of their practice time and reps and thinking about certain things. So in that way, I think it's a good thing."

Despite New York's 48 point offensive eruption in Week One, Tebow's gadgetry was held in check without any big chunk plays to speak of. As the former Heisman Trophy winner looks to put his fingerprints on the Jets' upcoming matchup with the Steelers, he's willing to take a patient approach.

"We want to be a factor and be able to be effective and execute and be efficient when we're in there," admitted Tebow. "But, I think that also depends on play calling time and how many opportunities they put in (for) the Wildcat. We just want to find ways to hold on to the ball, to get first downs, to keep our defense off of the field and if we can do that through the Wildcat, that'd be great."
