When Rex Ryan stepped to the podium this afternoon to address the media, his news on cornerback Darrelle Revis' injured left knee was not good. What many feared to be an apparent ACL tear was confirmed by today's MRI results and the time table for Revis' recovery is about nine months.
New York's perennial All-Pro is expected to have the knee surgically repaired within the next couple of weeks. With Revis lost for the year, Antonio Cromartie will step in to the No. 1 cornerback role, with former Boise State standout Kyle Wilson playing alongside him in the starting lineup. Ellis Lankster will likely be shifted into the nickel back spot and seldom-used Isaiah Trufant will see increase playing time.
Revis' absence cannot be overstated for a Gang Green defense that is built around the shutdown corner.
While many believe the Jets escaped Miami with a win, Revis' season-ending injury is a crushing loss for a Jets squad hoping to return to playoff contention this season.
