Jets shoring up depth along O-line

The Jets' front office can't seem to get enough offensive lineman to protect quarterback Mark Sanchez. Add Hayworth Hick's name to the list of the newest members of the Green and White.

The New York Jets have added yet another offensive lineman to their roster. The Jets signed guard Hayworth Hicks from the Indianapolis Colts practice squad. General Manager Mike Tannenbaum made the announcement on Wednesday.

Hicks is a rookie in the National Football League and played college football at Iowa State University. Hicks started 24 games during his playing career at Iowa State and was presented the Arthur Floyd Scott award for being selected Iowa State's most outstanding offensive lineman.

On April 30, 2012 Hicks signed with the Colts as an undrafted free agent. At the end of preseason he was waived from the team, but on September 1, 2012 Hicks was signed to the Colts practice squad.

Gang Green is sitting towards the bottom of the league in almost every major offensive statistical category this season. Can you blame Nick Mangold and company for New York's offense woes? The offensive line is usually a strong suit for the Jets every season and with three Pro Bowlers in Mangold, D'Brickashaw Ferguson and Brandon Moore leading the unit.

This season has been a different story. The passing and rushing game have been inconsistent. The offensive line has not given Shonn Greene many openings to produce big gains on the ground. Quarterback Mark Sanchez has been sacked 19 times this season which is tied for twelfth in the league. Sanchez has had some time in the pocket, but at times he's been under duress which has led to careless interceptions.

The offensive line is at full strength, but has sustained some minor injuries throughout the course of the season. The Jets have significant depth along the offensive line. With the Hicks signing, the Jets now carry five guards on the roster.

Offenses often live or die by the play of the line. The 3-5 Jets are looking for answers on offense, and it seems as if they are starting their improvements with strengthening their line.
