Jets' defense shines in ugly win over Cards

Green and White Report's Rick Laughland joined six-time Olympic Gold medalist Amy Van Dyken, and former Cincinnati Reds pitcher and two-time All-Star RobDibble on Fox Sports Radio to talk about the New York Jets quarterback controversy.

Despite the struggles that the Jets offense faced this past weekend against Arizona, their defense never let up and gave them every chance to win. By holding the Cardinals to just six points all game, Gang Green was able to hold on until the quarterback change and the ensuing seven points courtesty of Greg McElroy. The one touchdown on the day proved all the defense needed to secure the game in favor of New York.

"I think the biggest thing that helped us was the communication throughout the week to make sure we were doing the things we needed to do defensively to make sure each guy was in the right spot," said star corner Antonio Cromartie.

Cromartie and company held Arizona to under 150 yards of total offense. Furthermore, the fearsome defense forced three-and-outs on 10 of 14 drives by the Cardinals while also preventing them from making a third down conversion all game long. Add in an interception and you have a defensive performance that was sure to make any fantasy owner happy that started Gang Green last weekend.

"We played a complete game today and I think that's something to be proud of," said Yeremiah Bell. "We knew if we did what we were supposed to do and each guy took it upon himself to play his role in the defense, then we'd be fine."

The Jets will take their win on the road against the Jacksonville Jaguars next week. Rex Ryan has yet to name his starting quarterback for the game, leading to some speculation about the direction of the offense. However, the defense knows what they have to do in order to win and aim to have another efficient game in the Sunshine State.
