Report: Geno Smith to start against Giants

The New York Jets never-ending quarterback saga has taken another unexpected turn as injured rookie signal-caller Geno Smith could make his starting debut against the New York Giants on Saturday Night.

On Tuesday, the New York Daily News first reported that Jets rookie quarterback Geno Smith will make his first preseason start on Saturday against the New York Giants.

The newspaper's NFL writer Manish Mehta posted the following on his official twitter account:

Jets plan is simple: Geno Smith will start vs Giants if he's healthy #nyj

Smith has been battling a nagging ankle injury he suffered in the third quarter of New York's second preseason contest against the Detroit Lions. With Smith sidelined last week due to injury, Mark Sanchez got the starting nod against the Jacksonville Jaguars completing 13-of-23 passes for 169 yards including one touchdown and one interception, but hardly took a stranglehold on the quarterback race.

Meanwhile, Smith has been practicing this week at Florham Park and if healthy he could get his turn to showcase his skills in the Third-Annual MetLife Bowl.
