Reed's 62nd career INT lifts Jets to victory

Not only did Ed Reed get his first win as a New York Jet, but he also got his first interception as a member of the Green and White. With the 62nd interception of his career, Reed ranks first of all active players in the league. The win helped turn around a three game losing streak, as the Jets hope to return to the playoffs.

Gang Green's win against the Oakland Raiders came with a couple of firsts for veteran safety, Ed Reed. Reed not only got his first win as a New York Jet, but he also recorded his first interception with the team. The first interception with the team gave Reed No. 62 of his career, putting him at the top of all active players for the most interceptions.

The interception came in the second quarter, with Reed picking off Oakland's rookie quarterback Matt McGloin. The pass was ill-advised, as the young gunslinger threw into double coverage in hopes of avoiding a sack.

"I just stayed with it. (I) stayed with the guy dragging across," said Reed. "I believe he had a guy on him already, it probably was Dawan (Landry) or either Cro (Antonio Cromartie) had him. He tried to force it and I made the play."

The play came shortly after Jets' punter, Ryan Quigley, dropped a punt deep into Oakland territory. The interception by Reed set up New York for a field goal attempt, ultimately putting them up 13-3. The lead continued until the final seconds came off the clock, ending in a 37-27 victory for the Green and White. Although Reed was happy to get the 62nd interception of his career, and first with the Jets, Reed enjoyed the win, even more.

"I'm happy to have it, happy to have 62 (career interceptions) and happy to have a pick, but more importantly just to get a win and give ourselves a chance going forward."

The win came in a timely fashion, putting the three-game losing streak to an end. To turn the streak around, Reed knew that it took a whole team, and not an individual effort.

"We battled the last few weeks since I've been here," noted reed. "Last week, we fought hard to stay focused and maintain a great work ethic. We did that as a team. We came out and got a victory against a good team."

The New York Jets look to continue this momentum as the season is in its final three weeks. With the battle for the final playoff spot in the AFC heating up, the Jets have to overcome a tough matchup against the red-hot Carolina Panthers. If they can come out with a win, it will put them back on track to return to the postseason for the first time since 2011.
