Should he stay or go: Leger Douzable

He might not be a household name, but backup defensive lineman Leger Douzable helped the New York Jets front seven become one of the best in the NFL. Find out if John Idzik and company plan to keep the run stuffing veteran.

When the New York Jets kicked off the 2013 season there were a lot of questions on how this year was going to get started and not only would the offensive side of the ball needed to answer some questions, but of course the defensive side of the ball had a lot of questions itself.

The front seven of the defense gelled fast enough during a rough 16 game schedule and became one of the best defenses in the league. Well since the first game of the season at home against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, those questions have been answered to rave reviews.

One of those players that became big along with Muhammad Wilkerson, Sheldon Richardson and Quinton Coples has been Leger Douzable who evolved into a monster on the line of scrimmage for the Jets and he proved why he is a part of the defense for the Jets in the 2014 season.

As an undrafted free agent from the University of Central Florida in 2009 he has already had stints with the St. Louis Rams and two years with the Jacksonville Jaguars, Douzable made a better impact with the Jets when attacking the quarterback as well as forcing some bad situations against their opponents.

In his sixteen games for the Jets he has made four solo tackles while assisting on fifthteen and sacking the quarterback 1.5 times. Of course he saw no action in 2012 as he was a member of the practice squad for the Jets, but now there is a big question coming up once free agency begins, will the Jets keep him.

Obviously in a salary cap league your hoping that the Jets will have plenty available when they do cut Mark Sanchez and Santonio Holmes from the team and will bring in more depth for the defenders as well as the offensive side of the ball. But as we've said Douzable's demands are not so big, because to be honest he deserves to stay as it looks like he has a home at MetLife Stadium.

In my opinion he is worth it for John Idzik to re-sign him and let him continue to grow into a beast along with the others that are making this Jets defense become better and stronger for the future of the team.
