Game Preview: Bills (4-3) @ Jets (1-6)

After another heartbreaking loss last week to the Patriots it really is must win from here on out for the Jets. This week brings in another division opponent, the Buffalo Bills. The Bills have surprised a lot of people so far this season as they are over 500. after the first seven weeks of the season.

The Jets are in desperation mode right now and need a win in the worst way. After an eventful ten days there actually is a lot to be excited about coming into Sunday.

After a solid performance against the Patriots last week, which came down to the wire, and with the addition of playmaker Percy Harvin the Jets are looking up for the first time this season.

A win on Sunday won’t turn their season around but it will be the first step in doing so. The Jets play the Bills on Sunday and then two AFC teams back-to-back before heading into their bye. If they could put a winning streak together before going into the bye the Jets will at the very least feel better about themselves.

The Bills are coming off an emotional come from behind victory last week against the Minnesota Vikings. Since making the switch to Kyle Orton the Bills have looked like a different team. Orton has brought a winning attitude to the Bills and it’s rubbing off on the entire organization.

Although the Bills are flying high they come in a little hobbled. Their running back situation is up in the air as C.J. Spiller was put on the IR with a broken collarbone, and Fred Jackson has a bad groin injury and will be out at least two weeks. That helps the Jets out a lot. However, it has been the combination of Orton and rookie sensation Sammy Watkins that have put the Bills where they are right now.

Lets go into this matchup a little deeper.

Keys To The Game

Get Percy the Ball: Rex Ryan said earlier in the week that Harvin wouldn’t have a big role in the game plan on Sunday. I’m calling B.S. on that one. You brought him in here for a reason feed him that ball plain and simple. Harvin is by far the most talented offensive weapon the Jets have and they have to get him the ball. Whether that means throwing the ball down field or giving it to him out of the backfield they must let Harvin do what he does best make plays.

Do not turn the ball over: Last week against the Patriots was the Jets first turnover free game of the season. I think it’s pretty obvious to anyone that watches football. If you don’t turn the ball over you always have a chance to win the game. Last week the Jets didn’t turn it over and they should have won. This week if they don’t turn it over they will win.

Shut down Watkins: It has been a tough season so far for the secondary. They have been getting sliced up all season by opposing quarterbacks and revivers. The good news for the Jets, Orton is probably the worst quarterback the Jets have faced all season (excluding Derek Carr). Orton won’t throw the ball all over the field. With the running back situation up in the air Sammy Watkins is the Bills lone offensive playmaker. It’s pretty simple you shut him down the Bills can’t move the ball.

X-Factors

Percy Harvin: This one is pretty obvious Harvin was brought in to make plays and he will do just that. Do not expect him to go off and score a bunch if touchdowns or catch a lot of balls. However, Harvin will impact this game in some fashion and he will make a play that makes a difference in the outcome of the game.

Darrin Walls: Walls had a very good game last week against the Patriots. I would imagine he will be lined up against Watkins for most of the game. Walls will have to get the better of Watkins on Sunday and limit him as much as possible.

Geno Smith: Geno Smith had probably his best game of the season last week. He threw for 226 yards, ran for another 37, and threw a touchdown. Smith has the talent to outplay Orton on Sunday and he has to if the Jets want to win. Look for Smith to have a big game against the Bills as last year at home against Buffalo Smith threw for over 300 yards and three touchdowns.

Prediction

The Jets are an angry team right now and you don’t want to go into a hostile environment and play an angry team if you’re the Bills. I think the Jets take out all their frustrations on Sunday and unfortunately the Bills will be the team to take the beating. I’m taking the Jets here to win by two scores at least. The Jets win their first game since week one 24-14.
