Jets give out team awards

Florham Park, NJ- In what has been a trying season, several Jets players received early Christmas gifts in the form of the team’s annual rewards on Tuesday. The awards are voted on by the Jets players, and staff.

The biggest honor given out on Tuesday was the Curtis Martin Team MVP award, which was awarded to defensive tackle Sheldon Richardson.

Coming off an outstanding first NFL season in which he was named AP Defensive Rookie of the Year award, Richardson has had another strong season with 63 tackles and seven sacks.

“It meant a lot,” said Richardson of the award. “I appreciate it, grateful, it’s a blessing.”

There were four other play awards and one award from the media handed out on Tuesday and the winners are as follows:

Dennis Byrd Award, for Most Inspirational Player: Linebacker, Calvin Pace

The Kyle Clifton Award aka the Good Guy Award: Tight End, Zach Sudfeld

The Bill Hampton Award, awarded to a rookie who acts the most professional in a locker room: Guard, Dakota Dozier

The Marty Lyons Award, awarded to the player who is the most charitable and most involved in the community: Cornerback, Kyle Wilson

The Ed Block Award for the most courageous player: Safety Rontez Miles

In a nice moment, head coach Rex Ryan received the Media Good Guy award.

The award is usually given to players but an exception was made this year.

Ryan has always been great with the media with his entertaining press conferences and outspokenness so it was only natural that he was given the award.
