Jets Name Interim GM

Rod Graves was hired as senior director of football administration for the Jets by, now, ex-general manager John Idzik. With Idzik now fired and Woody Johnson and company searching for a new general manager Graves will take over all football operations until the new general manager is hired.

The decision was announced, on the Jets team website, by Randy Lange .

Graves won’t have a lot of responsibility in this interim role as you’d fully expect a full-time general manager will officially be in place well before teams can start making any major personnel moves.

But according to multiple reports Graves will also have a chance to interview for the open general manager job with the Jets. Graves was previously with the Arizona Cardinals, where he first formed a relationship with Idzik, for 16 years. Serving as vice president of football operations and general manager.

Before his time in Arizona, Graves, was hired as a regional scout for the Chicago Bears in 1984. In 1993 he was promoted to director of college scouting before being promoted again to director of player personnel in 1994 which he served in until 1996.

Kristian Dyer of Metro New York reported that Anthony Lynn will interview with the Jets for the head coaching gig. This is likely more about doing Lynn a favor and giving him experience in the interviewing process/boosting his stock that he could possibly parlay into offensive coordinator job than it is about serious consideration for the job but either way it helps Lynn.
