Two big names drop out of GM search

JetsInsider.com has learned that two big names that were on the Jets short list of GM candidates have already dropped out.

Ravens Assistant GM Eric DeCosta whom the Jets reportedly coveted as their top candidate to replace John Idzik has declined to be interviewed. DeCosta is a rising star amongst NFL executives and it's not surprising he took his name out of the running as he had deep loyalty to the Ravens and is expected to be the successor to current GM Ozzy Newsome when he retires. DeCosta turned down the Jets for an interview two years ago when they eventually hired Idzik.

Multiple sources also confirm that Vikings Assistant GM George Paton has also turned down the Jets request for an interview. Paton, like DeCosta also turned the Jets down 2 years ago.

As the GM search continues, sources confirm that the Jets have met in the past two days with the Browns' Bill Kuharich in NJ and then flew to Seattle to interview Seahawks Director of Personnel Trent Kirchner and Head Coaching Candidate, DC Dan Quinn. They are also reportedly have interviews scheduled with Texans head of scouting Mike Maccagnan and Eagles Pro Personnel Rick Mueller.

While the team would love to hire a GM before a coach, there are stories swarming that Woody Johnson's consultants, Charlie Casserly and Ron Wolf are enamored with former Bills Head Coach Doug Marrone and are pushing Johnson to hire him.

Should be interesting in the coming days. Log on to JetsInsider.con often for all the up to the second breaking news.
