Geno Smith undergoes surgery on broken jaw

After being “sucker-punched” by former teammate IK Enemkpali, quarterback Geno Smith underwent surgery on his broken jaw Thursday.

Smith, who broke his jaw in two places as a result of Enemkpali’s punch, had plates and screws inserted into his jaw. It did not have to be wired shut and Smith will remain in the hospital overnight.

Enemkpali, who was signed by the Bills after being waived by the Jets, apologized to the Jets organization, fans and his former teammates at a press conference Thursday.

Smith is expected to miss at least six to 10 weeks due to the injury.
