Amaro suffered a shoulder injury in the first preseason game in Detroit and there was a lot of confusion around the injury. At first it didn’t seem like a serious injury then more and more time went by and not only was Amaro not practicing but we weren’t getting any updates either way. It seemed obvious that the injury was more severe than everyone originally thought but no one expected to hear he would miss the season.
The other news of the day might have been a surprise if the decision was made at the beginning of training camp but as camp turned into preseason it became quite apparent that Willie Colon had locked up the starting right guard job and today Todd Bowles made it official. Not only did Bowles confidently declare the winner but you could tell he wasn’t particularly thrilled with the other options, like Brian Winters, who will serve as Colon’s backup for now.
The Jets play in their final preseason game Thursday night and there will be a handful of players competing for some of the final active roster spots. Some of those players will have to settle for the practice squad and some will hope to get picked up by other teams but for all of these players this will be their last chance to prove to the Jets coaching staff that they deserve to make the active roster. Tomorrow we will have a full rundown of all the bubble players and who has to do what to earn a spot.
