FLORHAM PARK: The New York Jets took to the practice field Monday afternoon as the team officially begins preparation for the 2015 regular season. In just six days, the Jets will take on the Cleveland Browns in a game that counts.
While the Jets were in just shells Monday (helmet, jersey, pants), the team did get back quite a few bodies and several of which are expected to play against Cleveland.
Jets coach Todd Bowles said first-round pick Leonard Williams "moved around pretty good," and hinted that things were looking optimistic for him. Granted, the coach admitted he'd figure out more when the team put on pads. Rookie Devin Smith took part in the individual portion of practice, but may still be a week or two away. Jeremy Kerley, Lorenzo Mauldin and Erin Henderson all practiced, and Bowles said they'd go against Cleveland.
Bowles also addressed running back Stevan Ridley, who was placed on the PUP list Saturday:
"He's going to rehab and when he gets better, he will be 100 percent," Bowles said. "I think, right now, he was getting better. To say that we can jsut take him off and put him on there and he would have been 100 percent, I would have been lying.
"We've got three other good backs that are playing well right now, so tha gives him a chanc eto heal. When he heals, and he gets better and he comes off, at least we'll know he'll be closer to 100 percent than he would be right now."
The Jets will have off Tuesday before returning to practice on Wednesday.
