You might remember the name Kenbrell Thompkins, if you do it's likely because of the attention he received during the 2013 preseason when he was reportedly lighting up the Patriots defense in training camp.
Going into the 2013 season everyone was wondering what wide receivers Tom Brady was going to be throwing to and Thompkins, along with Aaron Dobson and Zach Sudfeld, were the talk of the Patriots training camp. That talk quickly turned to quiet mutterings of disappointment as Dobson has failed to have any type of consistent impact, Sudfeld was released and subsequently signed by the Jets and Thompkins was released after two games last season and signed by the Raiders.
Now the Raiders have also released Thompkins and will join the Jets practice squad. To make room for Thompkins the Jets released wide receiver/kick returner Walt Powell.
Thompkins graduated from the University of Cincinnati and went undrafted in the 2013 draft before signing with the Bengals before being released and joining the Patriots.
Thompkins played in 12 games for the Patriots in 2013, was targeted 70 times but only hauling in 32 receptions for 466 yards (14.6 yards per reception) and four touchdowns. In the two games he played for the Patriots in 2014 Thompkins was only targeted 10 times bringing in six of those targets for receptions for 53 yards and no touchdowns. Thompkins played in 12 games for the Raiders in 2014 catching 15 passes, on 37 targets, for 209 yards(13.9 yards per reception) and no touchdowns.
