New York Jets kicker Nick Folk is expected to miss at least 4-6 weeks

Look like the Jets have to go kicker shopping.

FLORHAM PARK, NJ - According to multiple reports Jets kicker Nick Folk will miss at least 4-6 weeks and season-ending IR is a possibility. Folk strained his quad in pregame warmups before the Jets win over the Jaguars and while Ryan Quigley filled in adirmably for Folk the Jets clearly need to get an actual place-kicker until Folk returns.

Quigley handled his normal punting duties, kickoffs and extra points (going 4-4), and after the game he said he felt he could make field goals of less than 45 yards, but the one thing Todd Bowles was hesitant to let Quigley try was actual field goals.

"We knew Quigley could kick some extra points, but the field goals would have been tough," Bowles said after the game last night. "Anything outside the 25, we were probably going to go for it."

And by outside the 25 Bowles clearly meant outside the 25, not on the 25, as he decided to go for it on fourth-and-three from the Jaguars 25 late in the first quarter. Ryan Fitzpatrick hit Eric Decker for 15 yards and a first down and three Chris Ivory touches later the Jets had a 14-3 lead. It worked out great for them in that instance but there are bound to be more instances of a team needing someone they can trust to make a field goal than instances of risking going for it on fourth down.

At today's press conference Bowles said they expect Folk to be out at least 4-6 weeks and said they could consider putting him on season-ending IR, instead of carrying two kickers, if they decide they need the extra roster space. Of course a big part of that decision will depend on who the Jets bring in to replace Folk and if they are confident enough in his performance to stick with him for the rest of the season.

So, who will that kicker be you're wondering? Well the New York Post's Brian Costello reported that the Jets have tried out four kickers," Billy CundiffGarrett HartleyKyle Brindza and Randy Bullock."

Mike Garafolo of Fox Sports seems to think Bullock is the favorite tweeting, "Jets worked out 4 kickers because who really wants their punter to keep kicking? Nick Folk out this week. Smart $ on Randy Bullock to sign."

Bowles confirmed that they tried out kickers but said they haven't made a decision yet. He expects to have a decision made by tonight at which point this post will be updated.

OTHER INJURY NEWS AND UPDATES:

Dion BaileyAntonio Cromartie, Folk and Calvin Pryor did not participate today and considering today was just a walkthrough it would seem unlikely that Bailey or Cromartie will play. Bowles said Cromartie has a deep quad bruise and listed his chances of playing at 50/50 but even that seems optimistic. Bailey has a high ankle sprain which means he will probably miss a few weeks and there's a good chance the Jets will have to make some sort of move with him to free up a roster spot.

As for Pryor Bowles said he, "is still a ways away."
