The Jets changed their off-season workout program this off-season to involve more strength work because of how much the Raiders line dominated the playoff game . . . Dave "Yogi" Yovanovits is "a nervous wreck" according to Herman Edwards, and has needed IV's throughout training camp. But the coaches are happy with the progress he is making at guard .. . .
Chester McGlockton will not be making the trip to Japan because he doesn't have the proper paperwork, like a passport. It's probably better off that he doesn't go because he can get more conditioning work done by staying in New York . . .
Mike Westhoff is very happy with the punting of Dan Stryzinski.
"Dan is killing the ball," said Westhoff. "He's having a great camp."
Stryzinski is coming off his worst season as a pro. He ranked 32nd in the NFL in punting last year. But this doesn't concern Westhoff who feels he found the root of the punters problem last year.
"He had a bad reason last year and I know why and I won't say," said Westhoff. The Jets would probably love to reverse sites with next year's game. The 13 hour flight Tokyo doesn't thrill a lot of people around the team. The Jets are only staying basically three days in Japan, which makes it even tougher: two 13 hour flights a five day period. Talk about a remedy for two major doses or jet lag. When the Jets get back, Herman Edwards is giving the team two full days off to recover . . ..
"If you had the perfect situation, you would stay over a week or two," said Chad Pennington . . .
Pennington was held out of the morning to rest his arm . . .
Dewayne Robertson jumped off-sides in the morning practice and got some advice from Edwards.
"Watch the ball, not the center," said Edwards . . .
WR Phil McGeoghan had another terrific catch in the morning practice. The Jets have an extremely tough decision to make with the fourth and fifth receiver slot, and McGeoghan is making it even tougher .. . ..
B.J. Askew suffered a scratched retna in the Wednesday afternoon practice and was held out of Thursday's practices . . ..
