Woodbury had been playing wide receiver the whole off-season, but was switched to quarterback right before training camp. The Jets felt that he was getting injured too often at wide receiver because he wasn't used to all the running the position requires. "Coach Herm said I was getting beat up at wide receiver so he wanted to keep me healthy, so I guess quarterback was the way of keeping me healthy," said Woodbury a few hours before he was waived. With the Jets essentially set at quarterback with Chad Pennington, Vinny Testaverde and Brooks Bollinger filling the three slots, Woodbury didn't have much of a chance of making the team. Woodbury was with the Jets the last two seasons, moving between the quarterback and wide receiver positions.
