Some of the other players joining Lewis in the spring where Curtis Martin, Vinny Testaverde, Curtis Conway, Jerald Sowell, Dave Szott, Tom Nutten, Jason Ferguson and Marvin Jones. It was basically all of the starters.
With the Jet lag issues coupled with the poor field at the Tokyo Dome, Edwards isn't going to take a chance by playing his veterans too long.
One starter who is going to get extensive action is Dewayne Robertson. He needs all the work had can get if he's going to be ready for opening day . . .
It's amazing how wrong the scouts were about Brooks Bollinger's arm strength.. He launched a couple of nice deep balls in practice today that receivers couldn't run under. His arm is not an issue . . .
Rookie free agent cornerback Kevin Knight had a pick in practice. He is quietly having a terrific camp. He is undersized and doesn't have great speed, but the UNC product makes a lot of plays . . .
The Jets designed three plays for Japanese receiver Yoshi Imoto, and hope to get him a catch or two in the second half. The NFL assigned Imoto to the Jets and linebacker Shinzo Yamada to Tampa Bay to excite the crowd in the Tokyo Dome . . . Watching the Tampa defensive line practice is awfully impressive. They are so quick and athletic for big guys. The Jets have been trying to build this kind of line the last few years. If Robertson turns out to be a Warren Sapp-type three technique tackle, they might finally a reasonable facsimile . . .
Jets veteran guard Dave Szott has some advice for the young players playing in their first exhibition game.
"This is a chance to show what you can do," said Szott. "If you aren't in our picture here, there are 31 teams they can hook up with. You aren't just playing for this staff, but 31 other staffs." . . .
While a lot Jets are eating their meals in fast food restaurants, Curtis Martin and Ray Mickens are a lot more adventurous. On Thursday night, they ate at possibly Tokyo's finest restaurant - Nobu, one of the best sushi restaurants in the whole world. The McDonalds across the street from the Tokyo Dome is going to miss Robertson, who has been a frequent visitor . . .
There was a party for both teams at the Tokyo Dome Hotel Thursday night. Herman Edwards was spending a lot of time with his old friend John Lynch at the event. Jason Fabini was seen catching up with former teammate Kerry Jenkins, now with Tampa Bay.
Curtis Martin (neck) and Vinny Testaverde (back) will not play against Tampa Bay. Neither injury is considered serious.
