The NY Jets cut veteran WR Jeremy Kerley

FLORHAM PARK, NJ - On a busy first day of free agency multiple sources are confirming the Jets have released veteran WR Jeremy Kerley.

The news is no surprise as Kerley's role was drastically diminished in Chan Gailey's offense. He only had 16 receptions this past season.  The team needs to clear cap space to fill roster voids and Kerley's name was on the top of the list. The move saves $1.3MM in cap space.

Kerley, formerly a fifth round pick of the Jets out of TCU in 2011 worked as a slot receiver and returned punts.

The move comes after news broke earlier that the team signed former Bears RB Matt Forte after losing Chris Ivory to the Jaguars. The team also earlier released TE Jeff Cumberland.
