The answer is not close at all according to several sources.
ESPN's Ed Werder reported that the team's offer to Fitzpatrick is less than the 3 year $21MM deal that the Eagles signed career backup Chase Daniel to yesterday. Not very encouraging, considering Fitz is reportedly looking for Sam Bradford money in the $15-18MM per year range.
The Jets are in a tough spot considering Fitzpatrick's journeyman career and his age. Granted, he was excellent last season but his history shows his level of play has been extremely inconsistent.
Another scenario that popped up yesterday after the Texans signed former Broncos QB Brock Osweiler is that Denver may pursue Fitzpatrick who would be a good fit to step in after the team lost both of their QB's this week. Our sources say that Denver behind the scenes is seriously looking into the Fitzpatrick option. The only saving grace is that Denver likely won't be willing to pay Fitzpatrick's price either.
Overall, a very murky situation for the Jets that won't likely be settled anytime soon.
