The Browns have been watching one free agent after another leave the team and gloat about their escape on the way out and now they have to start looking for players that would be willing to go there. According to Kimberly Martin of Newsday DeMario Davis is one of those players.
After four years with the Jets Davis was just never able to live up to his potential and certainly not the lofty expectations of former coach Rex Ryan - who compared the linebacker to Ray Lewis even if he made the comparison in terms of leadership - and he began to see less playing time as Erin Henderson started taking snaps from him last year. Davis has great speed but his instincts and his ability to make reads and change direction never caught up to his speed.
Davis would often over run his assignment and was a constant liability in coverage but was good against the run and as a blizter. With Henderson and Jamari Lattimore also free agents David Harris is the only inside linebacker currently on the roster, but while the Jets have expressed interest in re-signing Henderson they have not shown much interest in bringing back Davis. With the Browns struggling to convince their own free agents to stay Cleveland seems like a good choice for Davis to get some playing time.
