Sheldon Richardson thinks the Jets defense is better and faster

FLORHAM PARK, NJ - In a recent interview with SNY, Jets DT Sheldon Richardson chatted about the evolution of the Jets defense.

In a recent chat on SNY's Jets Nation, Richardson said that the off-season conditioning of DE Leonard Williams and the addition of players such as NT Steve McLendon and rookie LB's Darron Lee and Jordan Jenkins have made the Jets much faster. Photo: John Heckman

"We're faster. I will say that", said RIchardson. "Coach Bowles said we needed more speed and I didn't think we could get any faster but we did that."

When asked if he is taking more of a leadership role on the team, Richardson said he "leads by example" and his role is "dominant football".

Richardson recently learned that he will miss the first game of the season agains the Bengals due to an traffic incident last year where he was arrested for driving at a high rate of speed and was carrying a legal handgun. Despite the suspension, he will participate in all of camp and the pre-season and should be raring to go for game two against Rex Ryan and the Bills in Buffalo.
