Former Jets QB Ray Lucas on the SNY TV show Jets Nation recently mentioned CB Marcus Williams as a player that he thinks is going into the season under the radar and is rising.
The former 2014 Texans undrafted free agent out of North Dakota State was signed to the Jets practice squad after Houston released him in the pre-season. By October, he had cracked the Jets roster and has been there ever since where last season he had a team high 6 INT's.
He is now competing with Buster Skrine for the starting RCB position up for grabs with the departure of Antonio Cromartie.
"If someone told you a Jets player got 6 interceptions last year you would say it's Darrelle Revis, right?" said Lucas. "Nope, oh no, it was Marcus Williams. With the absence of Cromartie I think this guy (Williams) can go on the other side. Williams is ready to make that next step."
Right now, it seems Skrine has the advantage but that could easily change in camp. Either way, Williams will be a big part of the Jets secondary this coming season.
