A big reason the Jets signed wide receiver Cedric James is that he's an excellent special team's player. Not only can the former Viking return kicks, but is very good in kick coverage. The Jets want their fifth receiver to be a contributor on special teams. He has good size (6-1, 197 pounds) and speed (ran a 4.43 forty) for the Jets. He was consistently on the injury list during his two years in Minnesota . . . Joe Klecko was at Jets practice today . . .
It's clear wide receiver Cecil Moore is still favoring his injured knee . . ..
The big theme of the Jets training camp this summer is - "Start Strong". Herman Edwards instituted a number of changes to help the team get off to a better start than last year's 1-4. The meetings are longer than in the past, and the practices are more physical . . .
The Jets have Yogi Yovanovits practicing at left guard and tackle. While they believe his future is at guard, they want him to have the flexibility to backup at both positions. Remember Yogi was a left tackle at Temple . . .
The Jets will have their starters play into the third quarter against the Giants . . .
Herman Edwards said on Tuesday the team isn't interesting in signing Victor Green right now, but this might have been a front. With Derek Pagel's ankle injury, they might have to call Green in the next couple of weeks . . .
Tyrone Carter still is struggling a little bit.
"I think he is still in the learning process," said Herman Edwards. "He is trying hard to make players. When you try too hard, you mess up." . . .
The Jets are obviously going with Doug Brien as their field goal kicker. They have accepted the fact that their kickoffs are going to be short . . .
