Bryce Petty and Christian Hackenberg will be the two quarterbacks playing for the New York Jets on Thursday

The Jets will only play two quarterbacks in the final preseason game

With only one more preseason game to go Todd Bowles wants to give rookie Christian Hackenberg more in-game reps and give Bryce Petty one more opportunity to convince the coaching staff to keep four quarterbacks. What Bowles does not need to see is more Geno Smith, who will not play against the Eagles.

"I settled on a quarterback plan for Thursday. I'll probably play Petty and Hack." Bowles said they haven't decided on exactly how they'll split the playing time for both quarterbacks, but he'll "try to even it out as best as I can."

When Bowles was asked what went into the decision not to play Smith on Thursday he said, "Well, I'd like to see more of the other two guys... We know what Geno is."

And what Smith is, is the backup quarterback for the Jets. Fans still want to argue against this fact, but it is a fact regardless of how mad it makes those fans. Bowles said he made the decision to sit Smith this week "probably after the last game (against the Giants)," and said it was about keeping Smith healthy and also getting more of a look at Petty and Hackenberg.

"Yeah, you want to keep most of the guys healthy but we still want to take a look at the other two guys as well."

Look for both quarterbacks to play around a half a piece, give or take, with Petty looking to earn a roster spot here, somewhere else or at least get to come back to the Jets practice squad and Hackenberg looking to build some positive momentum and confidence for down the road. Way down the road.
