Jets Bring Back Safety Antonio Allen

Jets sign safety Antonio Allen, a former seventh-round pick.

FLORHAM PARK, N.J. - The Jets signed a player today and he needs no introduction. Safety Antonio Allen agreed to terms with Gang Green today, making him the fourth safety on the team. Allen was drafted by the Jets in the seventh-round of the 2012 NFL Draft. He played in 38 games with the Jets and recorded 110 tackles, 2.5 sacks, a forced fumble and an interception returned for a TD.

Allen was released by the Jets in August 2015, after suffering an Achilles injury. Allen was picked up by the Houston Texans in March of 2016, but was cut over Labor Day weekend.

Allen brings an explosive edge on special teams and will be a serviceable backup for Marcus Gilchrist. Allen is a versatile athlete who played linebacker at the University of South Carolina, as well as cornerback for the Jets in 2014. After playing his first two seasons at safety, Allen was moved to cornerback in his third year by Rex Ryan and company due to lack of depth.

Allen joins Gilchrist, Calvin Pryor and Rontez Miles as safety's on the current roster.
