Jets Tried To Claim Veteran CB Benwikeri

Jets made a move last week to bolster their ailing secondary.

JetsInsider.com has learned that the Jets were one of three teams last week that tried to claim former Panthers CB Bene Benwikere. He was also claimed by the Redskins and Dolphins, with Miami winning the claim due their record last season.

Benwikere, a former fifth round pick and three year veteran from San Jose State was a starter for the Panthers and surprisingly got cut after a bad performance against the Falcons where Carolina got lit up for almost 500 yards in passing offense.

The Jets, who are thin on the secondary due to injuries to Darrelle Revis (hamstring) would have liked to add the veteran for more depth. Darryl Roberts filled in for Revis this past week against the Steelers and played respectably but injured his shoulder and will get an MRI to see the severity. If he can't go this week the Jets may have to sign another CB.
