The Jets defense will shut down Josh McCown

The Jets defense is too good for Josh McCown to handle.

Florham Park, N.J. - The Cleveland Browns have had a long list of quarterbacks that have lined up under center. Since 1999, over 20 quarterbacks have played for the Browns. Clearly that does not breed success. This season alone, the Browns have had six quarterbacks play. Robert Griffin III: comeback cut short due to injury. Cody Kessler: started for most of the season but has most recently got a concussion and is out for Sunday. Charlie Whitehurst: played for a game and was then waived. Kevin Hogan: only threw for 100 yards, but ran for 104 yards and touchdown. Even Terrelle Pryor started under center at one point for the team and he hasn't played quarterback since his Ohio State days. Josh McCown looked to be the savior early in the year, but he broke his collarbone in Week Two. However, McCown has recently healed up and has practiced all week, paving the way for him to start.

There are very little things in the stars that are lined up for the Browns to win. The Browns are playing at home, which is tough. The run game has been one of the best in the NFL, eighth in the league averaging 120.6 yards per game. But that's just about it. Pryor has been on a slump lately. The team is 0-7, they have absolutely nothing to lose. The defense has been just terrible. There have been too many quarterbacks to get in an actual rhythm. But, out of all the the signal callers, McCown does give them the best chance.

McCown is the definition of a journeyman quarterback, even more than Ryan Fitzpatrick. He's played for seven different NFL teams, including one team in the UFL. McCown has been unable to stick somewhere, but after having his best season with Tampa Bay in 2014, he signed a three-year deal with the Browns.

In the one game he started in this season, McCown went 20-of-33 for 260 yards and two touchdowns to match two interceptions. He also had two attempts for zero yards and a fumble. Not a great game, but not that terrible, especially since he broke his collarbone. Last time McCown played the Jets was Week One of the 2015 season. He went 5-of-8 for 49 yards while rushing for 23 yards. On the end of that drive, his first of the game, he dove for the end zone, but fumbled the ball away. McCown was taken out of the game due to a concussion and the Browns lost 31-10.

The Jets have virtually the same defense as last year, but with better pieces. On paper, the Jets have one of the top defenses in the NFL. However, the only time they proved they were the best was in the Week One loss against the Bengals, in which they had seven sacks. The bad news is Darron Lee and Buster Skrine are most likely out for the game. The good news is Muhammad Wilkerson has been limited in practice and has a chance of playing Sunday.

This is the best opportunity for the Jets to break out on defense and prove that they are the top in the league. Sheldon Richardson broke out of his shell last week when he was on the line. Leonard Williams has been playing out of his mind this season. Darrelle Revis had his best game of the season last week. The defense had two picks in the win against Joe Flacco. Add in the fact that the Browns offense has not been playing well and it will be a good time for the Jets. Even with Cleveland having one of the best run offenses, the Jets can counteract that with having a top run defense.
