Joe McKnight has passed away

Former Jets running back was fatally shot this afternoon.

FLORHAM PARK, N.J. - According to nola.com, former Jets running back Joe McKnight was shot and killed this afternoon in Terrytown, Louisiana, during an argument at an intersection.

McKnight, 28, was selected in the fourth-round by the Jets in 2010, coming out of the University of Southern California. He appeared in 39 games with the Jets posting 502 total rushing yards. In his three season with the team, McKnight returned two kickoffs for touchdowns.

McKnight grew up in the New Orleans area and was a star football player in high school.

This fatal shooting appears to be an incident of road rage. A witness said she was leaving the store and saw McKnight being yelled at by the shooter at an intersection. She said McKnight was trying to apologize to the suspect before he was shot multiple times. The witness said the shooter shot McKnight, stood over him and said, "I told you don't f--k with me," before firing another shot.

McKnight last played for the Kansas City Chiefs in 2014. He also played in the Canadian Football League.
